SPINAL CORD
The spinal cord is connected to the brain and goes down to the middle of the back. It is proctected by the bony vertebrae column. It is also surrounded by a clear fluid called Cerebral Spinal Fluid. The spinal cord consists of millions of nerve fibers that transmit electircal information to and from the limbs, trunk and organs of the body. Nerves that exit the spinal cord in the upper section (neck), control breathing and the arms. The nerves that exit the spinal cord in the middle and lower sections of the back control the trunk, legs, bladder, bowel and sexual function. The brain and the spinal cord are referred to as the Central nervous system.
